Trump gets high marks on border security but struggles on economy in poll

While President Donald Trump is receiving positive reviews about border security and public safety, the economy still represents weakness. Prices are a problem for most voters, as only a small number feels that they are advancing financially, and more than half believes that things are worse in the shadow of the new White House.

With a margin of 22 points, the Fox News survey found that more voters say the Trump administration made the economy worse (52 %) instead of the best (30 %). These feelings are almost identical to what they felt towards the Biden administration – the opposite of what the voters felt eight years ago during the first period of Trump.

The questionnaire was completed before the assassination of Charlie Kerk, founder of Turning Point Usa, on Wednesday.

Economics classifications are still negative by more than 2 to 1 (71 % negative compared to 29 % positive). This is where things are almost when Trump took office.

As was the case for more than four years, less than 15 % say they are advancing financially, while this number is less than three times at least.

However, in some areas, voters say things are not bad. A year ago, 48 % said that gas prices were a “big” problem for their families. Now 33 % feel this way, a decrease of 15 points. Likewise, smaller stock prices say that housing costs (11 points) and grocery prices (by 8 points) are a big problem.

It is the opposite on the utility (+2 points) and healthcare costs (+7), where more people are called a big problem.

However, the big majority describes each of these costs either a simple or big problem.

“The question posed by the former President Biden team was whether the voters would attack a $ 8 grain box, and the answer was no,” says Darwin Show, a Republican reconnaissance expert, who is conducting Fox News polls with his democratic counterpart, Chris Anderson. “I think the Trump team finds this dynamic is still possible. It is not enough for the prices not to rise, it needs to go down. If not, it will be in 2026 a bad year for the Republican Party.”

The ongoing negativity of the voters about the economy was somewhat verified through the recent Ministry of Labor’s report that showed that employment estimates 2024 were much weaker than he initially believed.

The economy is largely the most important issue for voters (37 %). This is followed by migration security and border security (13 %), health care (11 %), and political division (11 %). All other issues are in one numbers, including crime and rifles. It is worth noting that Democrats, Republicans and independents agree that the economy is the supreme issue facing the country.

In the future, voters are pessimistic: 62 % believe that life will be worse for the next generation of Americans. This increases from 53 % who felt this way a year ago-the second higher in the Fox News polls dating back to 2002. With a margin of 10 points, optimism is higher among parents (44 %) than non-performers (34 %), margin of 13 points, more parents (50 %) of mothers (37 %) believe that life will be better for their children. Eight out of 10 Democrats and independents believe that life will be worse, while 6 out of 10 Republicans believe it will be better. A year ago, approximately 6 out of 10 Democrats said that life will be better for the next generation, while 7 out of 10 Republicans and 6 out of 10 independent are worse.

Trump’s approval of the economy is 39 %, only one brand is higher than his low record, and even fewer voters agree to deal with customs tariffs (36 %) and the cost of living (32 %).

While Trump’s classifications are better on immigration (approval of 47 %) and crime (50 %), his best signs on border security, 57 % agreed. This is not only a record in border security, but also the second highest approval on any case in a survey of Fox News (was 60 % highest for “recent hurricanes” in 2017). In addition, 49 % on ice, up from 46 % in June.

Less concern about crime in their neighborhood: 32 % are very concerned or very anxious, a decrease than 48 % in 2021.

More than half of the federal government generally agrees to a role in the crime police in large cities (53 %), especially Trump, which sends the National Guard forces to help police in Washington, DC (51 %).

Currently, 46 % like Trump’s function in general, while 54 % do not refuse. This term was 49 % in March, shortly after taking office. 88 % of Republicans fully correspond to, as well as 55 % of men under the age of 45 and 48 % of Spanish origin. Among all voters, more Trump (45 %) rejects a strong approval (25 %). This 20 -point intensive gap has not changed mostly since March and is compared to Biden’s classifications for most of his mandate.

About 46 % of voters also approve the job of Robert F. Kennedy Junior as Minister of Health and Humanitarian Services. Its classifications are higher among parents (53 %) and parents (57 %) non -parents (43 %) and mothers (49 %).

Forty -nine percent agrees to Jerome Powell’s performance as head of the Federal Reserve. About half of those who agree to Trump also approve the Powell, and vice versa.

Poorry poll

Two -thirds of the voters believe that the country has become less hungry since Trump took office. This is twice the number that he felt gathered, and worse than 54 % who felt that Biden was dividing the country four years ago.

Trump’s favorable personal classification is consistent with his job approval: 43 % view it positively and 57 % at an unsuccessful way, compared to a 14 -point negative net. Vice President JD Vance (-12), former Vice President Kamala Harris (-13), Governor of Florida Ron Desantis (-12), and California Governor Gavin News (-11), all revolve in the same net negative preference as Trump. The signs of Illinois Governor JB Pritzker are 13 points underwater, however it is unknown to half of the voters.

Three quarters believe that the president should always follow the law “, while one quarter says that the United States is far from the path, it needs a president” breaking some laws “to put matters in its right quorum. These feelings have been unchanged since December 2023. Three times the number of Republicans, and Democrats believe that the United States needs a president ready to break some laws to properly control matters.

The number of voters in their local courts (66 %) trusts more than federal courts (58 %) or Supreme Court (55 %). More Republicans (78 %) have more faith in the Supreme Court than independents (47 %) and Democrats (34 %), while the majority of all three groups have confidence in their local courts.

It was conducted from 6 to 9 September, 2025, under the supervision of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R). The Fox News poll includes interviews with a sample of 1004 registered voters who were randomly chosen from a national voter file. The respondents spoke with direct interviews on the ground lines (119) and mobile phones (638) or completed the survey on the Internet after receiving the text (247). The results based on the full sample have a margin of sampling error from ± 3 percentage points. An error in taking samples for the results between the sub -groups is higher. In addition to the error of sampling, the formulation of questions and demand can affect the results. Weights are generally applied to the variables of age, race, education and the region to ensure that the demographics represent the registered voter residents. Sources of developing weight goals include surveying American society, Fox News analysis of voters, and voter file data.
