Trump is threatening to ‘federalize’ DC with national guard and more. Here’s how that could play out.

president Donald Trump Weighs whether up to 1,000 National Guard soldiers will be deployed to Washington, DC, early this week, Fox News learned, in an attempt to help deal with what he described as an increase in a violent crime.

The plans come just one day after Trump’s commitment to the social truth to expel people who have no shelter from the capital of that nation. “The homeless must come out immediately,” Trump said on social media. “We will give you places to stay, but away from the capital. Criminals, you don’t have to go out. We will put you in prison where you belong.”

Trump’s plans, which are expected to be more detailed at a press conference at 10 am on Monday, will include members of the National Guard in the capital, or the 2700 National Guard Force, which works in the explicit authority of the Supreme Commander.

Unlike other branches, Trump will not have to have a sign of local authorities – which makes its activation an attractive option.

Upon talking to correspondents at the Oval Office last week, Trump stumbled against what he described as a “ridiculous” level of crime in the country’s capital, where he was attacked by one of the former Doug employees earlier this month.

“We want to get a safe and safe capital,” Trump said last week. “We will get it.”

Trump also told correspondents that his White House lawyer is looking to end the law of domestic rule, a law approved by congress in 1973, which gave Washington, DC, the right to elect their mayor and local representatives.

White House press secretary Caroline Levit told reporters last week that Trump had ordered law enforcement employees to increase their presence in the capital, although additional details about the scope of this existence are still unclear.

Violent crime decreased in the first seven months of 2025 by approximately 26 % compared to 2024, according to the data collected by the Capital Police Department and released earlier this month. In general, the crime in the country’s capital decreased by almost 7 %.

On Sunday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said in an interview with NewSnation that Washington, DC, was “more violent than Baghdad.”

Washington, DC, told Mayor Morel Boser, for its part, MSNBC in an interview on Sunday that “any comparison with a war -torn country is a fierce and a mistake.”

However, this is not the first time that Trump has sought to take experimental measures in the Capitol in the country – a effort he returned repeatedly, including during his first term in his position.

In March, Trump signed an executive order, “making a safe and beautiful work band in the capital,” designed to address issues with a city, which has long been ridiculed with the name “dirty”, “awe” and “crime” among other things. “We want to get a safe and safe capital,” he told reporters. “We will get it. Other options available to Trump are not without their own limits. In order to summon the local police force for any useful period of time, as Trump suggested, the president must be able to confirm “special conditions for the nature of the emergency”, according to the 1970s Law.

“If the capital does not get its work together, quickly, we will have no choice but federal control,” Trump said last week.

“But this is morally doubtful, as I think and violate democratic principles,” he added.
