Trump says DOGE found something ‘horrible,’ wants Musk around as long as possible

president Donald Trump said he wanted Elon Musk to remain in his team “for as long as possible” during a conversation with correspondents on Thursday, adding that Dog had found something “terrible” without revealing details.
The President made his remarks during a conversation with the first air force journalists after Trump was asked about the period in which musk would remain as a “private government employee”.
The questions followed a report from Politico this week claiming that Trump told his internal circle that Musk would leave his role as a “government employee” with Dog soon. The report pointed to internal frustrations of “inability to predict” to musk and its ability to be “a political responsibility.”
“Illon is great. It is my country,” Trump told reporters, adding that musk can remain in the White House “as long as he desires” and that he personally wants to stay for “as long as possible.”

“I love smart people, a smart person. I also love him, personally,” Trump added. “We are not in a hurry. But there will be a point while Elon will have to leave.”

The “private government employees” are allowed to work in the federal government for “no more than 130 days in a period of 365 days,” according to data from the government ethics office. The Musk time frame will end for 130 days, starting with the opening day, on May 30.
When asked if he would consider assigning Musk to a different post to keep him longer, Trump said this might be a possibility.
Trump replied: “I would like. I think Illon is great.” “But he also has a company to operate, or a number of companies to operate it.”
Musk has not yet left, the work is concluded at the time specified once.
According to the president, the “trustees” within his government will take over the work that Musk is doing with Dog when Musk leaves Dog.
Trump added that this work found something “terrible” and “incredible” today, but it will not reveal more details for reporters.

Musk’s work with Doge officially began after President Trump signed an executive order establishing the office on January 20. The role of a “private government employee” was created in 1962 to allow the executive or legislative authority to employ temporary employees for specific short -term initiatives.
When he was asked about a specific date of Musk’s potential departure, the president replied that he might be a “few months”.

“I will keep it as long as I can keep it,” Trump told reporters earlier this week. “He is a very talented man. You know, I love very smart people. It’s very smart. He has done a good job.”
President on Air Force One added that he imagines that many employees who work under Musk in Doge will eventually find their way to full -time positions in various federal agencies.
