Trump says Edan Alexander will be released by Hamas

President Donald Trump confirmed that the last alive American hostage, Adan Alexander, will be issued by Hamas after nearly two years in captivity.

“I am pleased to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen, has been held hostage since October 2023, returning home to his family,” Trump wrote in a post on the social media platform “Truth Social” on Sunday.

“I am grateful to all the participants in conducting this huge news. This was a step taken in good faith towards the United States and the efforts of the intermediaries – Qatar and Egypt – to put an end to this very brutal war, restore all live hostages and stay to their loved ones,” Trump continued.

“We hope this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal struggle. I look very much to that day from the celebration!”

The news comes after the terrorist organization announced on Sunday that it was “in contact with the American administration in recent days.”

“The movement showed a high level of positivity, and the Israeli dual -American soldier, [Edan] Alexander will be issued as part of the steps taken towards the ceasefire, open border crossings, and the entry of aid and relief to our people in the Gaza Strip, “as stated in the statement.

Vice President JD Vance also commented on the advertisement, and wrote: “Pray that Hamas follows and Edan gets back home.”

“If they do so, this will be another victory for Steve Witkev, who still faces vibrant attacks to liberate hostages, negotiate complex diplomatic proposals, and serve his country (at a large financial cost),” Vans wrote in a post on X.

It is not clear when Alexander will be released.

The headquarters of the hostages and missing forums at the Families Forum also issued a statement after the announcement of the release of Alexander, saying they were “embrace and support for the Alexander family.”

“In the event of confirmation of this version, Alexander’s condemnation must specify the beginning of a comprehensive agreement that will secure the freedom of all the remaining hostages,” the statement said.

“President Trump, the families of all the hostages have given hope. Please complete your mission and bring them all home.”

Trump recently celebrated the hundred day in his position, and the five American families urged him to take into account his strategy and apply pressure on both Israel and Hamas, through both economic and diplomatic means, to secure Launching all hostages.

In addition, fifty members of congress Trump sent a message on May 9 and urged him to give priority to remove the remaining hostages.

I grew up in Tinafley, New Jersey, Alexander moved to Israel in 18 years to volunteer in military service in the Jolani Brigade in the Israeli Defense Army. He lived with his grandparents in Tel Aviv and in Kibbutz Hazor, where he was part of a group of only soldiers.

He was kidnapped on the morning of October 7 – on Saturday, he was not required to stay at the base. His mother was visiting abroad, and like many only soldiers, he had the option to return home for the weekend. But he chose to stay, he does not want to leave his short comrades on the duty of the Guard.

There are still 59 hostages in Gaza, at least 24 of them are evaluated, including AlexanderNow, 21 years old, after spenting birthdays in Hamas’s families.
