Trump tariffs hit Alabama school district’s tight budget on new school buses

The multiple new definitions of the Trump administration reached the school area in Alabama Central.

Supervisor Lehman Woodvin addressed the members of the Board of Directors to tell them that a tariff of $ 2,500 is added to six of the 11 school buses that she bought last fall.

Last month, president Donald Trump announced a 25 % tariff for cars that are scheduled to enter into force on May 3, and the state’s financing currently covers about 76,000 dollars of the cost of buying a school bus.

It is the charge that the provincial leaders have not expected and they could force their narrow budget.

“I am not very happy with this,” she told the Board of Directors at the April 15 meeting. “We received a notification that there is now a government tariff they are trying to put on the buses we bought.”

Woodvin says that the reason for the additional expenses is that six 11 buses are manufactured after the date of the customs tariff, so that it is imposed on $ 2,500 to manufacture.

The broadcast of the meeting shows an invoice included in the agenda of the Board of Directors’ meetings, highlighting the purchases:

  • Buses 72 passengers cost 130,274 dollars each
  • Four buses of 72 passengers cost 132,774 dollars each, including a $ 2500 tariff
  • Three buses with special needs cost 146,328 dollars each
  • Two of the special needs, cost $ 148,828 each, including a $ 2,500 tariff

According to Woodfin, the boycott tried to return to the accusation with the seller, but it was said to have to pay.

State Director Eric Maki Alabama Daily News told that, as much as he knows, Autoja province is the first area to receive customs tariffs – but it is likely not to be the last.

“We discovered that most bus sellers are planning to charge additional fees,” said Maki. “We do not have an accurate number – 1500 dollars to $ 2,500 – but we don’t have it in writing yet.”
