Turkish police detain Erdoğan’s main political rival

Turkish police have detained Istanbul’s mayor Ikrim Eamoglu, the main political opponent of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in an intense campaign against the ruler for a long time.
The government media said that Emamoglu on Wednesday was part of an investigation into the alleged terrorism ties, but the opposition described this step as a “coup attempt” and sent the Turkish currency and market detention.
The opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) was appointed to designate Eamoglu, one of the most popular political figures in the country, as his presidential candidate on Sunday before its elections in 2028.
This detention comes a day after the cancellation of Istanbul University in Emamoglu, which would exclude it from entering the presidential race if it does not turn at the appeal.
The state -run Anamolo Agency said that Emamoglu is linked to a possible support from a political group in support of men for his 2024 campaign for his re -election.
While the four -year conflict in Türkiye with the banned Kurdistan Labor Party has claimed about 40,000 people, the Party of Equality and democracy in support of puberty is the second largest opposition group in parliament.
A separate investigation in Emamoglu is looking for alleged corruption in public tenders.
Emamoglu, who is widely considered to be the most dangerous competitor for more than two decades, is already facing a series of investigations, most of which is for political sermons.

The party has expressed its hopes for naming a presidential candidate so far before the date of 2028 for the elections, which will pressure Parliament to vote soon.
Erdogan, who stole Turkish policy since 2002, has directed the nation on a growing authoritarian path, especially after he survived the 2016 coup attempt.
In recent months, his government has begun a campaign targeting politicians from the left and right, journalists, and academics – even a mine of election predictions – with hundreds of people arrested while strengthening the president’s competitors.
It has confirmed the decrease in currency and nervous stock markets for investors at a time when Erdogan seeks to restart the economy and the temptation of foreign investment to Türkiye.
