US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink to exit amid peace push with Russia

The Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that the US ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brunk.

Tami Bruce, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Brenk will leave her role, although she has not given a specific date.

The news comes in a critical moment for US foreign policy, as officials are working to reduce tensions and end the war of grinding in Eastern Europe.

Brenk, a professional diplomat with contracts of experience, was nominated by then president Joe Biden and confirmed unanimously by the Senate in May 2022, just months after Russia launched its full invasion of Ukraine.

She became the first American ambassador to serve in Kiev since 2019, which helped to re -establish the American diplomatic presence after the embassy employees were evacuated in the early days of the war.

Before the servant in Ukraine, Brenk was the American ambassador to Slovakia and worked in roles in the National Security Council. She speaks Russian and is famous for defending American interests strongly in Eastern Europe.

While he was in Ukraine, Brenk was an audio supporter of American military assistance and often publicly appeared with Ukrainian leaders. Its resignation comes at a time when the Trump administration focuses on ending the war through diplomacy and renewable conversations with Russia.

Also on Thursday, US and Russian officials held rare faces in Istanbul aimed at reforming long diplomatic relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two sides exchanged official notes to end an agreement that would settle banking services on the embassies of each country, a step seen as a key to preserving diplomatic tasks.

In recent years, both countries have imposed financial restrictions on each other’s embassies and reduced employment due to the repercussions of war. The final banking deal can open the door to restore some of these lost diplomatic ties.

The Foreign Ministry said that follow -up talks are expected to be set, although no date will be set.

Brenk’s departure falls at the moment of a significant transfer in US foreign policy. Its exit may also remove the road to the new ambassador, who is in line with the Trump administration’s pushing the ceasefire deal.
