US says Chinese firm is helping Houthis target American warships

A Chinese Satial Company linked to the country in the country provides the Houthi rebels supported by Iran in Yemen with pictures of targeting American warships and international ships in the Red Sea, according to US officials.

The Trump administration has repeatedly warned of Beijing that Zhang Guang is a satellite technology, a group of relations with the People’s Liberation Army, providing Houthis with intelligence, according to American officials.

“The United States has raised our concerns several times to the Chinese government in the role of Zhang Guang Technology Ltd. in supporting the Houthis in order to obtain Beijing to take action,” said a senior foreign ministry official.

The official added that China “ignored” fears. The Financial Times also told the CGSTL and “Beijing support”, despite Washington’s warnings, “Another example of China’s empty demands to support peace.”

The official said: “We urge our partners to judge the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese companies for their actions, not their empty words.”

Tami Bruce, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that CGSTL was “directly supporting Iran -backed terrorist attacks on American interests.”

“The United States will not tolerate anyone who provides support to foreign terrorist organizations such as the Houthis,” Bruce added.

Anxiety about CGSTL comes amid an in -depth trade war between Washington and Beijing after president Donald Trump slapped a huge new tariff on imports from China, which is now under 145 percent tax.

The Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea, a critical sea road for the American global and naval trade, after Israel launched a war against Hamas, another group supported by Iran, in 2023, in response to the attack of the Palestinian group on October 7.

The United States has escalated attacks on the sites of the rebel group in Yemen in recent weeks, including a major military strike that was the issue of Signalgate leakage and pointed to the escalation of the campaign.

China has expressed concern about the Houthi attacks. The Biden Beijing administration urged its influence with Iran to curb the virtue – but its officials have not seen any evidence that Beijing had done so.

Trump made the Red Sea instability tackling a priority, amid fears that the Houthis are still a threat to the global economy.

“Beijing should take this priority very seriously when considering any future support for CGSTL,” said the American official.

When asked about the United States’ allegations of the satellite company, the Chinese embassy in Washington said it was “not aware of the relevant situation.”

CGSTL had previously been subject to American scrutiny, and among the groups achieved by the sanctions in 2023 were claiming that they had provided high -resolution images from the satellite of the Wagner Group, the Russian mercenary army, which helped President Vladimir Putin to trial his complete invasion of Ukraine.

The Chinese company was established in 2014 as a joint project between the province’s government in two generations and a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Changchon, the provincial capital.

“Chang Guang is one of a handful of Chinese commercial satellite companies” outwardly “, which is actually firmly guaranteed in the ecosystem of military fusion, and provides global monitoring capabilities for civilian and military customers.

In light of the Chinese military fusion program, companies must share technology with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army upon its request by the government.

Matthew Brosice, a Chinese defense expert at Bluepath Labs, a consulting company working with the American government, said last year that CGSTL has 100 satellites per orbit, although it plans to get 300 by the end of 2025, which enables it to take repeated images of any place in the world every 10 minutes.

Bruzzese said Cgstl had “close links” to the Chinese government, the Communist and Military Party. But there have been fewer general references to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army relations since 2020, indicating that it “has become more cautious about discussing these ties publicly.”

In recent years, the United States has imposed sanctions on dozens of Chinese commercial groups with alleged army links.

Bruzzese added that CGSTL had brought the surroundings of senior Chinese officials about its applications, including those of “military intelligence” and its technology showed many senior Chinese People’s Liberation Army officers, including Zhang Yukia, the best general in the Chinese army, who is ranked second after President Xi Jinping.

American concerns about CGSTL come at a time when the Pentagon is increasingly focused on Chinese military activity in space.

The Pentagon said that China put 200 satellite in orbit in 2023, second after the United States. He added that Beijing was also exporting satellite technology, including satellites developed from a distance developed locally-the same type of technology that is published by CGSTL.
