Vianello Targets Joshua For Colosseum Clash In Rome

Guido Vianello has volunteered to face Anthony Joshua in his warm-up fight in December. 2016 Olympian Vianello (14-3-1, 12 KOs) says it’s his “dream” To fight against Joshua (28-4, 25 Kos) in Rome at the Colosseum.
The 6’6″ Guido mentions Joshua vs. Arslanbek Mahmudov as well “Easy fight” For him, he had previously knocked out the Russian fighter in the eighth round on August 17, 2024.
A dream born in Rome
“My dream is a big fight at the Colosseum in Rome. You can do it with a big star like Anthony Joshua. So, fighting with him in Rome would be a dream,” Guido Vianello told professional boxing fans, addressing Anthony Joshua.
“Joshua deserves to have a good opponent come back after a knockout. I know Mahmudov wants that [AJ fight]too, but I hit him. They are talking about a fight between Joshua and Makhmudov. Joshua is a hero and a warrior. “With Mahmudov, it’s an easy fight for him,” Vianello said.
Eddie’s approval is required
Guido stated that he told Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn about his interest in fighting Joshua, and told him he liked the idea. Vianello says he has also spoken to his promoters at Top Rank, and they are interested in the fight as well.
Hearn could be a stumbling block to the fight happening. It’s clear he knows how tough Vianello is by watching his last four performances against these fighters:
- Alexis Barrier
- Richard Torrez Jr
- Arslanbek Mahmudov
- Efi Ajagba
A risky choice for AJ
Vianello ousted Barriere and Mahmudov. Those four fights showed that Vianello attacks his opponents relentlessly and has respectable power. He makes up for what he lacks in strength through the way he puts pressure on his opponents. Joshua would be vulnerable against a fighter like this, especially now with his resistance to punches showing signs of deterioration.
Vianello says he could fight as early as December. He wants to rest from his long training camp after his latest win over Alexis Barrier on October 11.
