Waymo expands service area around San Francisco and Los Angeles

Waymo expands its service area in two main parts in California, according to a report. Techcrunch. The company brings robots to many new cities and neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Starting today, the contestants along the San Francisco Peninsula will be able to cities such as Brisbane, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Melipay and Berlingam to try a driver taxi. The same applies to Silicon Valley sites such as Palu Alto and Mainlo Park.

The Los Angeles Greater Region gets an expansion on June 18. Robotics will be available in neighborhoods such as Echo Park, Silver Lake, Ladera Heights and Playa Del Rey. They will also run across Sunset Boulevard.

The company says that this last expansion will grow its operational borders in both regions by about 80 square miles. This brings the total coverage area in California to 250 square miles, after other expansions throughout the state.

Waymo recently boasted that it had reached a 10 million -paid outstanding mark, with 250,000 weekly trips in all its four markets. Waymo One Service also works in Phoenix and Austin. This is a decent scale, given that the company got rid of the waiting list and started to provide horseback to the public last year only.

The company plans to test its driver without a driver in 10 new cities this year, including Las Vegas and San Diego. It has also announced that it will start offering a driver’s taxi ride in Washington, DC in 2026. Waymo has not abandoned the rest of the world. The robotics test in Tokyo began earlier this year.

The company also plans to double its fleet of vehicles. Waymo currently run 1500 Jaguar I-Pace. With 2000 join the fleet next year or so.
