What will power AI’s growth?

As I discovered as this line continued from reports, building new nuclear factories is not simple or very fast. While my colleague David Rotman puts his story on the package, the Amnesty International boom can end up dependent on another energy source: fossil fuel. So what will happen in Amnesty International? Let’s get into it.
When we started talking about this big project about artificial intelligence and energy demand, we had a lot of conversations about what to include. From the beginning, the climate team has really focused on an exact examination, will provide the electricity needed to operate data centers that operate artificial intelligence models. We also wrote in the main story:
“The data center that necessarily comes out is not necessarily bad. If all data centers are connected to solar panels and were not operated only when the sun was bright, the world will talk a lot about consuming artificial intelligence energy.”
But many artificial intelligence data centers should be constantly available. It can be said that those who are used to train models can be more responsive to the availability of changing renewable energy sources, as this work can happen in fiery bursts, at any time. Once the model is assembled with questions from the audience, though, there should be a ready -made computer power all the time. Google is likely not to be very keen to make people can use new artificial intelligence mode only during daylight hours.
With solar energy and wind energy, then, it does not seem very suitable for a lot of demand for electricity from artificial intelligence, unless it is associated with energy storage – this increases costs. Nuclear power plants, on the other hand, tend to run constantly, and remove a stable source of energy for the network.
As you may imagine, it may take a long time to get a nuclear power plant.
Large technology companies can help support closed plant reopening plans or current factories’ efforts to extend their operating age. There are also some existing plants that can do small promotions to improve their production. I have just seen this news story from Herald three -cities About plans to upgrade Columbia’s generation station in East Washington – with modification over the next few years, it can produce an additional 162 megawatts of energy, more than 10 % of the factory’s current capacity.
But all that will not be almost enough to meet the demand claimed by major technology companies in the future. (To learn more about the numbers here and why the new online technology will not come quickly enough, check my full story.)
