More on the social post shared by President Donald Trump, which appeared to threaten to withhold SNAP funds

On Tuesday, November 4, President Trump took to Truth Social to share a powerful message with the public.

“SNAP benefits, which have increased by billions and billions of dollars (many-fold!) during Joe Biden’s disastrous term in office (due to the fact that they have been indiscriminately ‘handed out’ to anyone to ask for them, rather than just those in need, which is the purpose of SNAP!), will only be granted when radical left Democrats open the government, which they easily can do, and not before! Thank you for your concern for this,” President DJT wrote.

Ultimately, the post led some to assume that Trump had apparently backed away from his commitment to use partial SNAP emergency funds to supplement beneficiaries for November. Specifically, AXOIS published a report titled: “Trump says SNAP won’t get paid until after shutdown.”

Furthermore, The Hill published a report titled, “Trump says he will withhold SNAP benefits until the shutdown ends.”

White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt speaks

President Donald Trump’s “Social Truth” post and subsequent reports prompted the White House to clarify its message. On Tuesday, Carolyn Leavitt indicated to the press that the Trump administration was “fully committed.” Additionally, she noted that she plans to partially fund SNAP for November.

“SNAP benefit recipients need to understand that it will take time to receive this money because Democrats have forced the administration into an untenable position,” Leavitt explained. “We’re digging into an emergency fund that’s supposed to be for emergencies, disasters, and war, and the president doesn’t want to have to tap that fund in the future, and that’s what he was referring to in his Truth Social post.”

In the end, Levitt asserted that “The best way to get the full amount of SNAP benefits to beneficiaries is for Democrats to reopen the government…Democrats filibuster it.”

More on President Donald Trump and the ongoing issue of SNAP funding

As The Shade Room previously reported, the cessation of SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown began on October 1. Last week, a federal judge ordered the USDA to disburse the funds “as soon as possible.” This, with news emerging that the benefits will stop on November 1. Additionally, the Trump administration has made clear that it has no plans to step in and use emergency funds to pay for SNAP, according to The Shade Room. This is said to be because it will take money away from other government-funded programmes.

However, on Monday, November 3, it was reported that the Trump administration would comply with the order. However, instead of the full $9 million in funding that SNAP typically sees, the administration will only be able to withdraw about 50% of that amount to November funding recipients. Additionally, it has been noted that it may take from a day to a few months for recipients to receive partial funds.
