Why I Think Copilot Means the End of Office as We Know It

This month, Microsoft has improved Copilot for Office 365, and will get a lot for an additional $ 30 per month. But this also reminds me of a product called Crossstalk, which I followed in the early nineties, just before the Internet. At that time, I worked for IBM, who was thinking of competing with Crosstalk, but like Microsoft Office, she had many features and such a wonderful old compatibility, and the conclusion is that it would cost a lot to create an effective counter.

After a few months, I launched the Internet, and the mutual conversation was elites. Its ability to speak to a variety of information services connected to the phone was not needed because Eternet became common. Netscape made all of these old things out of time, along with services such as Compuserve, MSN and AOL.

Artificial intelligence has the ability to do the same in the office. This does not necessarily mean that the brand has died, but I expect the competitive pressure to force the product content to change significantly over the next few years.

Let me explain.

The office is applying

The office started under the name (name) different in the eighties. Initially, it was the Apple productivity package. In the end, the cornerstone product became decisive in the appearance of windows. Office was an internal assembly and acquired products that focused on text processing (that replaced the typewriter), database programs (which were replaced by cards files), the presentation program (which has been replaced by facial plans), the product of the spreadsheet that replaces civilizations and many central central central offers and many moderate dedicated offers.

Unlike the Lotus’ SYMPHONY offer, which was more homogeneous and failed (to a large extent because its essence was a lower altogether the perfect spreading than a more concentrated view), the office was a set of products that were not initially designed to work together. But it was combined after the truth with mixed results at first. The value was in the package, not in the Windows operating system, which has become the dominant desktop operating system and gave it an advantage so that IBM could not be overcome. It was granted, IBM was almost supporting life when they tried this, and Microsoft became a greater power of industry than IBM declining at the time.

It is an old product to it even before the Internet that has been effectively updated so far, but I think artificial intelligence will turn the text program.

Why will you make the Office an artificial intelligence old

You work with artificial intelligence through claims. If you want to create a document, a spreadsheet, or a presentation, then you tell him what you want, then artificial intelligence creates it. Artificial intelligence, not the components of the office, focuses on demand and result. It does not need a text processor, publishing paper program or presentation package, but rather it must be trained to understand the result and then formulate it. In general, you do not need a database because it already contains one, which teaches its results.

If you ask artificial intelligence to create an image, it does not use the photo editing package, drawing package or other focused tools such as a human artist. Instead, it takes your direction, and based on its training, it creates a final product.

Just as you did not need a writer or calculator when you have a computer, desk and Windows, you don’t really need a computer, office, or Windows if you want to create a document, image, plan or analysis of financial results. You only need data, a series of well -formed claims, and Amnesty International to accomplish the task.

In short, it is a matter of time only before someone discovers that through properly trained artificial intelligence, you do not need all the complexity and cost of the office. AI is sufficient.

conclusion

The industry passes through the main events that put the current technologies on an irregular rhythm. The center of the books of the books was canceled. Computers have removed most of the independent desktop technology (typewriting machines, calculators, Rolodex). Mobile phones took out payment phones and wire lines (still continuing). Take the internet plates online and most fax machines. Smartphones took out the independent mp3 players, mobile phones and writers, and IPhone alone took a number of mobile phone companies.

Artificial intelligence will be more disturbing because it brings with them independent compounds (land, air, water), robots, digital aids and comrades. During their maturity, human -controlled compounds, many functions currently perform, will take it, and most of the current digital ecosystem.

I expect the issue of time before someone realizes that productivity productivity depends entirely on artificial intelligence (instead of a luminosity of artificial intelligence such as Copilot) the way to do with Microsoft will be what Microsoft did with Lotus and what Apple did with Nokia.

As Apple did in the era of Steve Jobs, Microsoft can realize this exposure and remove this itself. Jobs established iPod with the iPhone, which worked well for Apple. It is interesting to note that Microsoft reached this plan first, but Steve Palmer killed this effort in favor of Zune. This did not work well either Palmer or Microsoft. What Apple did is very unusual because those who know the company do not usually want to put the main products in the final risks. Therefore, although Microsoft can do this, the possibilities will not see this risk soon enough to prevent another company from doing this first and taking the market.

Since Microsoft Pivsips to AI, there are increasing potentials that it will make this step, but driving is still a cloud, not based on artificial intelligence, which may lead to a Nokia -like error. We’ll see. The watch beats at the end of the office and the appearance of a real production tool based on artificial intelligence.
