New York State wants more nuclear power in a big way

New York Governor Cathy Hochol announced on Monday that its mandate will host a new nuclear power plant designed to generate at least 1 GB of electricity.
“If you remove a nuclear from the table, you must burn more fossil fuels,” Hotchul said at a press conference. “This will not work with us here in New York.”
The Governor directs the Energy Authority in the New York (NYPA), which owns and manages twenty power plants – most of them from dams and gas turbines – to develop the new facility. The plans are still in its cradle: NYPA, the state’s government entity, has not yet chosen a location or design.
Hochol said that the state will work with private sector partners to develop the power plant and will finance the construction while purchasing the energy it generates.
Among the sites under study are three nuclear factories currently operating in New York State, according to the Wall Street Journal. They are all owned by Constellation Energy, which was attracting technology companies to purchase production from their nuclear wallets.
Both Microsoft and Meta currently have deals with Constellation: Microsoft reopens a Three Mile Island reactor in Pennsylvania in a $ 1.8 billion project, while Meta purchases clean energy features of the Cleanton Clean Energy Center in Illinois in a deal worth billions of dollars. Amazon recently signed a deal with Talen Energy to buy nearly 2 GB of nuclear weapons in Pennsylvania.
But the nuclear industry still faces some possible opposite winds. There is no new nuclear power plant that has been crashed in the United States more than 15 years ago.
Nuclear power plants have widened in the United States in the United States through the final dates and budgets exceeded billions. Small normative reactors, which are followed by many startups, are addressing those concerns by taking advantage of collective manufacturing, but the commercial feasibility of technology is still not tested until a few are built.
Hochol said that the success of the project will depend on organizational and allowing reform at the federal level. Previous large nuclear power plants took years to complete the process. “The barriers in Washington,” said.
Nuclear energy has received renewed attention as it attracts technology companies and developers of the network’s data center for new sources of power. It has also become a rare point in agreement between Democrats and Republicans, indicating that the nascent nuclear renaissance may refresh the elderly nuclear fleet in the country.
“If we do not get to her board, he will pass.”
