McRae, 22, delivers the tracks with intense energy, stunning vocals and stunning choreography, so it’s no surprise that Britney Spears comparisons surfaced soon after she gained traction.
Over the past few years, fans have expressed interest in seeing the “So Close To What” singer portray Spears in a biopic; However, McRae seemed strongly opposed to the idea during her interview with Rolling Stone.
According to McRae, she would not be the right person for the position because she does not represent, and does not believe she fully embodies, Spears.

“I feel like I don’t look like her at all, and I don’t look like her at all,” she said. “So, I don’t know if I’d be a good fit.”

This is not the first time McRae has tried to distance herself from comparisons to Spears.
According to a previous report from The Blast, McRae previously acknowledged the compliment before noting Spears’ massive influence on the music industry.
“It’s a crazy statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears,” she said. “This is the plan.”
In that same interview, McRae seemed to imply that she still had more to learn from some of the music industry’s biggest stars.

“Whenever I’m out of breath on stage, I always say, ‘Well, Beyoncé can do that — I have no excuse!’” she said. “She figured out a way to run on the treadmill and sing at the same time. You could watch Coachella, and she was dancing and singing the whole time and she figured out a way to look cool and perfect it.”

Elsewhere during her interview, McRae talked about the backlash she received in the summer of 2025 after collaborating with Morgan Wallen, the polarizing country star who has dominated the Billboard charts for years.
After promoting her single “What I Want”, McRae received critical comments from some of her biggest supporters, many of whom expressed their disappointment with her selection. “Sorry, but Tate McRae writing a song with Morgan Wallen might be the dumbest thing you’ve ever done,” one user wrote.
However, McRae explained that she chose to work with Wallen because of her love of country music and her desire to transcend genres. “It was just about the song for me,” she later explained.
“I didn’t realize how much the song connected to all the other factors, and that really shocked me,” she continued.
Despite the hype, McRae doesn’t regret her choice. “I don’t think you should regret anything in life, because it gives you a lot of clarity,” she said. “I think debate and criticism are a way to learn and figure out what you want to go forward with, and how that shapes your character. I think that’s all important.”

The intense scrutiny didn’t end for McRae collaborating with Wallen, as the singer also spoke candidly about the downsides of fame, specifically feeling sexualized in moments she said were supposed to be empowering.
“People always want girls to put themselves out there. The minute they do, they get torn apart by it,” she said. “I was feeling sexy and confident for the first time in my life, and then I would release something and feel sexual, and feel like all my work and effort had been taken away from me.”

In addition to wrapping up her latest tour, McRae is wrapping up the year on a high note, with her single “Just Keep Watching” from the movie “F1” being nominated for a Grammy.
