Windsurf CEO opens up about ‘very bleak’ mood before Cognition deal

Days after the Ai Coding Startup Windsurf announced that it is obtained through perception, Jeff Wang started running Windsurf, to X to provide more details about the drama and uncertainty about the deal.

It has been reported that Windsurf in Openai’s acquisitions, but this deal has collapsed, with Google Deepmind instead, Varun Mohan, co -founder Douglas Chen, and some senior researchers. Google is said to be licensed by Windsurf as part of the $ 2.4 billion deal – but does not take a share of shares in the company.

This seemed to be the latest in the direction of “Resex AcquiHires”, as major technology companies seek to avoid scrutiny in fighting monopoly by employing members of the main start starting team and licensing their technology, instead of obtaining direct startups.

But what happens to startups and employees who are backward? We also discussed in the latest episode of the stock, the founder of the startup, the executive director of roses at Windsurf, compared a captain to give up his crew on a sunken ship.

Wang, who was the head of Windsorf’s business, became the company’s temporary CEO after Mohan’s departure. In his position in X, he offered some sympathy for Mohan and Chen, who described him as “great founders” in a position “that must be difficult for them as well.”

However, Wang narrated a comprehensive meeting on Friday, June 11, as most team members expected to hear about the Openai’s acquisition. Instead, he had to share news about the Google deal and the resulting departure.

“The mood was very dark,” Wang said. “Some people were upset with financial results or leaving colleagues, while others were concerned about the future. A few of them were crying, and questions and answers were understandable.”

From Wang’s point of view, although the company “lost some great people and is interested in a dangerous blow to the morale”, it is still “everything we have [go-to-market] Machine. “So it is still possible for Windsurf to raise more money, sale or continuity.

In that evening, Wang heard from the CEO of awareness of Scott Wu Warr and Arsal Kaplan, and said that the Windhorf leadership “took the approach of perception seriously from the beginning and was launched in the negotiations.” In telling him, what followed was a feverish weekend of discussions with perception, while considering the attention received from other potential buyers and meeting with the remaining Windows engineers to persuade them not to leave. (And as everything was happening, “the schedule was exploding with themes and suspension.”)

Wang argued that the two companies were well fit, partly because of the supplementary teams.

He said: “While they had gained their investment in engineering, they were suffering from their lack of investment in GTM and marketing, and our difference in these jobs is not less than the world.” “On the other hand, we were now missing the basic engineering team, and there is no better group of artificial intelligence engineers than assembling the perception in the squad.”

In addition, Wang said it and Wu (in the picture together above) the need to take care of all Windsurf.

He said: “This led to a major part of the deal: organizing it to give payments to each employee, waive all slopes, and accelerate everything in the field of property rights.”

It seems that the acquisition agreement was signed at 9:30 am on Monday morning, and it was announced to the team shortly after that in all other hand, and then it was announced to the public shortly.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Wang described all Friday “perhaps” the worst day of 250 people, “followed by Monday,” Most likely the best day. “
