Witkoff says Trump, Putin to speak this week on phone about Ukraine-Russia deal

A special envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkeov said on Sunday that president Donald Trump will likely speak with the Russian President Vladimir Putin this week.

In his appearance on the “state of the union” in CNN, Wittouf was asked when an agreement to end the war in Ukraine can be signed.

“The president uses weeks for the time frame, and I do not disagree with him. I really hope to see some real progress here,” Witkov said. “Nobody expects to advance this struggle. This is very very complicated, however, we send the gap between two sides. So, there are a lot of things that still have to be discussed, but I think the presidents will be a really good and positive discussion this week.”

“President Trump participated in every side and after these discussions,” said Whitkov. “The president gets updates in the actual time to everything that is happening, and he participates in every important decision here. I expect that there will be an invitation with each of the presidents this week, and we also continue to participate and hold talks with the Ukrainians. We advise them about everything we think.”

“The four regions are of decisive importance here,” Wittouf said about the conditions of the deal. “We are in discussions with Ukraine, we are in discussions with all these European countries for stakeholders, to include France, Britain and Norway, Finland … the entire host … and we are in discussions with the Russians also about those areas. Wittouf flew to Moscow last week from Doha, Qatar, where negotiations between Israel and Hamas were interrupted by a possible extension of the ceasefire agreement.
