World Darts Championship: Mark Webster selects some unmissable matches at Ally Pally, including Beau Greaves and Fallon Sherrock | Darts News
We have critic Mark Webster to pick the matches you can’t miss at the World Series of Darts at Alexandra Palace, including Beau Greaves and Fallon Sherrock.
This year’s tournament saw some interesting competitions with the biggest and best global tournament draw ever.
Expanding this year’s £5m tournament, the first round will take place over nine days of action from 11-19 December, with all 128 players taking part in a festive feast of darts at London’s Alexandra Palace.
The first round saw some incredible matches, so we asked our star and former Lakeside Champion, Webby, to tell us about the most unmissable matches.
Ricky Evans vs. Man Luke Leung – Friday 12 December from 7pm
This will be a great match – with good pace. I like the look of this match, but these are matches that Ricky has to start winning.
He’s preparing for a big game but he’s finding that consistency. He seems to have found his form at the World Championships, so I’d advise Ricky to move on from there.
Gian van Veen vs Cristo Reyes – Friday 12 December from 7pm
I really like this game just for the story! Great to see Christo back… I love players who dig themselves out of holes and come back.
Gyan has never won a match on the Ally Pally stage but I think that is changing this year and I think he can make huge progress.
He’s won the major now but it would be nice to see him at the end of the world.
Andrew Gilding vs. Cam Crabtree – Saturday, December 13 at 12:30 p.m
Cameron was really impressive in the Grand Slam of Darts but I still think Andrew will have a bit too much.
It may be an embarrassing contest but I think Gilding will pull through this one.
Cameron Menzies vs Charlie Manby – Monday 15 December from 12.30pm
Cameron lacked a bit of composure at times, while Charlie had some great averages and played really well.
Cameron is a good player and although Charlie is an exciting prospect and has put in some great performances since arriving here, I think Menzies will find a way. It might go through a few rounds.
Menzies has improved as a player this year and I think he will have a good tournament.
Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Andy Baetens – Monday, December 15 from 7pm
I really like this game! Belgian star Baetens is a top performer who qualified for the Masters earlier this year.
He wins the WDF World Championship in 2023, but I still don’t think we’ve seen enough of him on the big stage and that’s why I think Dirk will deal with the threat, but it could be a workout for him.
Connor Scott vs Simon Whitlock – Monday 15 December from 7pm
I’m so happy for Simon’s success – I think everyone was too! It was fitting that he won his first A-League regardless if he didn’t get a place at Ally Pally. Great to see him again.
It will be tough but I think Scott will have too many and win the match, but Whitlock is a great story.
Dave Chisnall vs. Fallon Sherrock – Thursday 18 December from 7pm
I know Dave doesn’t play well but I don’t think Fallon uprooted any trees this year either. I’ve struggled off the board and I think Dave will be very good.
Everyone is highlighting him as a seed in trouble but I think he will find a way to get past Fallon.
Beau Graves vs. Darryl Gurney – Friday, December 19 from 7 p.m
This is the thing everyone wanted to avoid… I think Po will beat him!
I don’t think Darrell would fancy the draw and I think he was quoted as saying he didn’t want to play Bo like many seeds.
Darrell did well at the Players Championship, but his darts weren’t landing properly at the Grand Slam.
