Zeldin to visit California-Mexico border over sewage spills

Li Zeldin, who heads the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), said on Tuesday that she plans to visit the border between California and Mexico to address issues related to “disgusting Mexican sanitation” flowing to the United States.

Zeldin will evaluate the toxic flow of waste and sanitation from the Tijuana River, which led to the closure of the beach in San Diego County.

The supervisor of the province of San Diego Jim Desmond, who raised the case in the past, said he is looking forward to visiting Zealin.

At the X Publishing last month, Dizmond called “one of the largest environmental and public health crises.”

“This is not just a discomfort – it’s a danger. Our naval seals are trained in the north of this toxic chaos directly,” Desmond wrote. “Local families are exposed to contaminated water. Tourism suffers. However, California still looks in the other direction. Many politicians have made promises – but they have not met anything. This is now.”

He said that Mexico failed to solve the problem and the United States failed to hold the Mexican government accountable.

In 2018, a broken water water pipe in Mexico led millions of gallons of wastewater in the Tijuana River, and in the end the Pacific Ocean. About 12 miles from the beach from the border to the north, it should have been closed at the time.
