Zelenskyy brings European allies to Washington for Trump meeting on Ukraine war

European leaders will join Ukrainian president Folodimir Zelinski when he travels to Washington, DC, on Monday to attend a major meeting with US President Donald Trump.
On Sunday, NATO Secretary -General Mark Root, European Commission President Ursula von der Lin, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Mirz, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stop all all attended their presence. Their joint presence on Europe’s determination to present a unified front to support Ukraine continues with the continuation of the Russian war.

Before his meeting with Trump, Zelinski met with von der Lin at the European Commission in Brussels to prioritize the White House conversations, focusing on long -term military aid, Ukraine’s ambitions to join the European Union, and to promote across the Atlantic solidarity in the face of Russian aggression.
At a joint press conference, von der Layen said she was happy to join Zelinski and other European leaders in Washington on Monday.

“We will continue to support you for the longest period,” she said, adding that the European Union supports a triple meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the United States.
It warned that the European Union will move next month the nineteenth sanctions package against Russia if the Kremlin refuses to stop its war in Ukraine.

Zelinski said he hoped that the next meeting with Trump will be a “producer” and not a repetition of the screaming match that took place in the Oval Office during his visit in February.

Zelinski’s meeting at the White House comes in the aftermath of the Trump summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Anchorage on Friday, where Trump dropped his request to a ceasefire and urged a final peace agreement.
After meeting with Putin, Trump said that the Russian leader was ready to end the war in exchange for the main concessions of Ukrainian lands. Trump said Kiev should take the deal with Moscow because “Russia is very great, and they are not.”

Zelenskyy, along with European leaders, refuses constantly proposals to deliver any Ukrainian land to Russia.
“Since the regional issue is very important, it should be discussed only by Ukraine and Russia leaders in the Triple Ukraine, the United States, Russia,” Zelinski told reporters at the European Commission on Sunday. “So far, Russia has not given any sign that the trio will happen,” he added.
