Zohran Mamdani in December promised to disband an NYPD unit that handles mass shootings

While New York City was banned from deadly mass shooting in the center of Manhattan, four, including a New York police officer, the Democratic Mayor Zahran Mamdani, a recent pledge to eliminate a major police station responsible for riots, civil disorders and fire.

Mamdani, who is currently in Uganda celebrating his wedding, had previously called for the entry of the police, although he was a candidate from a mayor, he took a quieter tone in relation to the police.

However, although he is already nominated by the mayor, Mamdani pledged in X in December 2024 to “dissolve” the strategic response group of the New York Police Administration (SRG).

SRG is one of the New York Police Special Operations Units, which, according to the official power site, specializes in the response of the turmoil, the suppression of crime, and the control of the crowd, and “responds to the city level, civil disorders, and major events with high training and specialized equipment.”

The website also says that SRG staff “is also published in areas that require a police increase due to increased crime or other conditions” and “filling to shoot, bank robbery, missing persons, demonstrations, or other important accidents.”

In December, Mamdani claimed that the New York Police had published SRG on “harassment + arrest Strikingteamsters.”

Mamdani pledged: “As the mayor, I will solve SRG, who cost the taxpayers millions in settling the lawsuit + brutal brutality from the population of New York who exercise the rights of the first amendment.”

In response to the shooting, Mamdani said: “I am sad when I learn the horrific shooting in the city center and I carry the victims and their families and the New York police officer in critical condition in my thoughts.”

He also indicated that he is “grateful to all the first respondents on the ground.”

On Monday, a single gunman, who was later identified as Shin Tamura, went to a building building in central Manhattan and opened fire, killing four people before running the gun on himself.

The four people who were killed in shooting were identified as an NYPD DIDARUL ILAM officer, CEO of Blackstone Wesley Lepatner, Alanenne and Julia Hyman, a colleague of Rudin Management.

The motivation behind the shooting is still unclear, but the gunman was suffering from grievance with the American Football Association, and he blamed football for clear issues with chronic painful brain disorders (CTE), a side effect of repeated strikes on the head.

In response to the tragedy, Mayor Eric Adams, who is running for his independent re -election, announced on Tuesday that “as a sign of respecting the memory of the NYPD DIDARUL ILAM who died in the lines of duty and multiple victims of collective reviews in Midtown Manhattan in 345 Park Avenue yesterday, all flags asked all the city groups and its knowledge Fixed.

“Officer Didarol Islam died while living, a hero and protector of New York City. We will never forget you,” Adams wrote in another post on X.

Fox News Digital communicated with Mamdani’s campaign to comment, but it did not receive a response immediately.
