India and Pakistan said on Saturday that they agreed to stop the shooting to end the worst fighting between nuclear armed forces for more than two decades.
US president Donald Trump claimed the credit for a social media post.
“After a long night of talks in the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire,” Trump wrote at his social media portal. “Congratulations to both countries for using a good sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your interest in this matter!”
Pakistan was the first of South Asia to confirm Trump’s statement. Isaac Dar, the Pakistani Foreign Minister, wrote, in a position of social media, that the two countries “agreed to a ceasefire with an immediate impact.”
“Pakistan has always sought peace and security in the region, without compromising its sovereignty and regional safety!”
India also said it had agreed to stop the air war, which has witnessed in recent days the exchange of missiles.
“The Director General of Military Operations in Pakistan, the Director General of Military Operations of India, called at 15:35 earlier this afternoon,” Vikram Maysri, Indian Foreign Minister, told a press conference in New Delhi.
“It was agreed that both sides will stop all combat and military action on the ground and in the air and the sea as of 17:00 today.”
He added: “Instructions were given on both sides to activate this understanding.”
However, there were reports on Saturday evening from India violations of the ceasefire along the control line separating the Indian and Pakistani director.
“This is not the ceasefire,” Omar Abdullah, Prime Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, who is controlled by Indian in a post on X.
India this week launched missiles and fired drones in Pakistan in response to an attack on weapons by what Pakistani -backed terrorists said in Bahajam, Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 25 Indian civilians and Nepalese.
According to Pakistan, the targets of India included deep -sized air bases inside the country, including near its military headquarters in Rawalbende.
Pakistan launched its own military operation against India, targeting its neighbor with short -range missiles and drones.
India claimed that Pakistan began mobilizing forces towards the border, which raised fears that the conflict in the air could escalate to a wider war on the ground.
Both sides claim that civilians were killed on the other side.
In a statement, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that within 48 hours that reach the ceasefire declaration, he and Vice President JD Vance with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif, participated in an attempt to end the fighting.
The talks also included the National Security Advisors of the two countries, Ajit Doval in India and ASIM Malik in India.
“I am pleased to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to a immediate ceasefire and started talks on a wide range of issues in a neutral position,” said Rubio.
“We commend the prime ministers Moody and Sharif for their wisdom, wisdom and the state in choosing the path of peace.”
An Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said the ceasefire was working directly between India and Pakistan.
The official, who did not want the name by name, said that the Director General of Pakistani Military Operations “started the call on the afternoon of the discussions and understanding (the understanding was reached).”
The official added: “There is no decision to hold talks on any other case anywhere.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued readings for Rubio calls with Indian Foreign Minister Super -Jaishhakar and his Pakistani counterpart, Dar, in which both sides said “The need[ed] To determine the methods of canceling the escalation and re -establishing direct communication to avoid miscalculation. “
In an invitation on Friday with the Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Army ASIM Munir, “Rubio provided us with helping to start constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts,” according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reading the call.
