Report, result, goals in Premier League

Morgan Rogers scored twice in the second half as Aston Villa recovered from two deficits to beat West Ham and keep the Hammers in the Premier League relegation zone.

Matheus Fernandes put West Ham ahead after 28 seconds, collecting the ball from Ezri Konsa and firing in from a tight angle.

Defender Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in John McGinn’s pass to equalize for Villa nine minutes later, but Jarrod Bowen added the finishing touch to Freddie Potts’ shot to restore West Ham’s lead 15 minutes later.

England midfielder Rogers scored from close range five minutes after the end of the first half and scored the wonderful winning goal from long range 11 minutes before the end of the match, moving Villa three points clear of leaders Arsenal to achieve their ninth successive victory in all competitions.

West Ham vs Aston Villa: Emery is “ambitious”

Villa’s exceptional run means they are once again poised to draw with Arsenal if Unai Emery’s former side lose when they visit Everton on Saturday.

Emery’s players next host Manchester United on Sunday (16:30 GMT / 11:30 ET / 08:30 PT). The Spaniard said: “We do not feel pressure.

He added: “We feel ambitious to try to do our job together and challenge Europe and the Premier League, and then enjoy every match.”

Nottingham Forest’s win at home to Tottenham and Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Brentford means West Ham are three points behind the fourth-placed Whites.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will next play away to Manchester City on Saturday (15:00 GMT / 10:00 ET / 07:00 PT).
