NFL: Philadelphia Eagles suffer 24-15 defeat to Chicago Bears as Super Bowl champions are booed by home fans | NFL News

Philadelphia Eagles fans booed after the Super Bowl champions lost 24-15 to the Chicago Bears in an NFL Black Friday game at Lincoln Financial Field.

The home fans started streaming with six minutes remaining when Caleb Williams hit Cole Kimmitt for a 28-yard touchdown to give Chicago a 24-9 advantage.

More harsh scrutiny awaits offensive coordinator Kevin Pattullo and his struggling offense, which failed to punish a Williams interception by losing a fumble while attempting a drive on a crucial exchange in the second half.

The Bears outgained the Eagles by 425 yards to 317, while running 85 plays to 51 for the hosts, recording 28 first downs to 14, rushing for 281 yards to 87 and holding the ball for 39:18 minutes to 20:42.

Ben Johnson relied heavily on a rampant ground attack led by Kyle Monongay with 22 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown along with D’Andre Swift with 18 carries for 125 yards and a first quarter score.

It was Chicago’s ninth win in its last 10 games to improve to 9-3 at the top of the NFC North, while the Eagles fell to 8-4 with their second straight loss after blowing a 21-point lead to the Dallas Cowboys last weekend.

Eagles fans booed their team again after another ugly performance

Disgruntled Eagles fans wasted little time in voicing their disapproval as booing was heard repeatedly throughout a tumultuous first half.

Through two quarters, Chicago racked up 222 yards to Philadelphia’s 83, 16 first downs to two, 142 rushing yards to 26, 21 possession minutes to nine, 47 plays to the Eagles’ 17, and, most importantly, 10 points to three that might have been confused with a 30-3 lead of such a depressing mood.

The Eagles’ offensive stumbles resumed after halftime when Hurts was intercepted by a diving Kevin Byard, who flew downfield from safety to cut off AJ Brown for his league-leading sixth pick of the season.

Vic Fangio’s defense would see it go unpunished before the champions exploited their ability to turn any game around in the blink of an eye when the Browns took possession 33 yards after Hurts’ 23-yard scramble. But Jake Elliott missed the ensuing extra point to leave the home side trailing 10-9.

The momentum threatened to swing moments later when Jaylx Hunt intercepted Williams while trying to set up a play that Chicago was seeking to orchestrate earlier in the game. Hunt was to be fooled on this occasion, as he jumped to bring down the undercooked pass.

Frustration set in again when the Eagles’ attempted drive led to a fumble and a forced turnover, with Nahshon Wright ripping the ball out of Hurts’ hands and clawing his way into a recovery. It was Wright’s fifth straight game with a punt, leaving him with five interceptions, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble this season.

Taking advantage of his approach, Johnson returned to the strength of his second-ranking rushing game as Monongai ran for a four-yard touchdown for a 17-9 lead at the end of a 12-play, 87-yard drive that featured a fourth-and-5 conversion from Colston Loveland.

Misery piled on for the Bears with six minutes left as Williams’ 28-yard strike to Kemet prompted Eagles fans to start leaving the ground in ugly scenes for the champions.

The early starters momentarily feared they would regret their decision to leave when Brown punted Hurts for a four-yard touchdown, but the Eagles were unable to convert the two-point attempt to leave it as a two-score game.

Swift gave the Bears a well-deserved first-quarter lead when he hit a quick three-yarder at the end of an 11-play, 78-yard drive as he and fellow running back Monongai combined for 59 yards on the ground.

Elliott cut the deficit to 7-3 with a 44-yard field goal after Hurts missed an open opportunity by DeVonta Smith on third-and-8, before Cairo Santos restored Chicago’s advantage to seven points with a 30-yard field goal.

The Eagles are on the road against the Chargers in Week 14, while the Bears head to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers.
